Open C 04:20
CHORUS Setting sail for open C, or maybe A or D. Just three strings, I tune them up and I’ve got everything I need. I see two ladies talking in the street with their umbrellas up. They haven’t noticed the rain has stopped. We all need shelter sometimes. CHORUS A man is sleeping on the street, everybody walking by. He has a dream of better days. We all need a dream sometimes. CHORUS Shadows growing longer on the street, the scene comes to an end. The busker stops, packs up her things. We all need a song sometimes. CHORUS

At the kitchen table I write myself into the day. Light reaches out to me, light reaches out to me, it reaches out inviting me to play… In coffee swirling daydreams I am flowing with the tide. Black words on white paper, black words on white paper, words on paper, what’s on the other side? And I know the world is changing far beyond the glass. Turn off the radio, turn off the radio, it’s all happening too fast. As I sit silently I feel my body keeping time. The rhythm never changes, the rhythm never changes, it never changes, as I’m searching for the rhyme. At the kitchen table I write myself out of the day. The light is fading now, the light is fading, it has faded, nothing more to say.

My thoughts are lost for a while. I know they will return if I stay still and calm, but I can still feel the wind on my face and I can still hear the music drifting by. When you hear that word please don’t pass me by. We can talk and laugh, just let go of your fear. Coz I can still feel the wind on my face and I can still hear the music drifting by. I am standing on the edge of this world, and I can see things that you will never know, but we can both feel the wind on our face and we can both hear the music drifting by. My thoughts are lost for a while. One day they won’t return if I stay still and calm, but I’ll still love you when I don’t know your face and I will still hear the music drifting by….

Daisy Chains 02:44
Born too far apart to meet you have both felt the same beat. Linked by names, like daisy chains. Hope and dreams, selfish genes. No one knows what it all means. Linked by names, like daisy chains. And I’m part of the sentence that joins the two of you. One of you a comma, the other an opening page… We’re all more than just one. We live our lives and pass it on. Linked by names, like daisy chains. Born too far apart to meet you have both felt the same beat. Linked by names, like daisy chains.
6.
Time slows down and I can hear the birds, looking at the wall for a clock that isn’t there. Noticing things I’ve never seen before, the web in the corner gets bigger every day. And a joke or a song is worth its weight in gold, and gold is worth nothing at all. Faces lit by screens, there’s no fire anymore, nowhere left to hide from the news. As we fight this invisible enemy, pauper or prince it treats the same. And a book or a song is worth its weight in gold, and gold is worth nothing at all. Stuck where we were when the music stopped, in crowded houses or alone. And as the waters settle and clear we see which things to keep and which to change. And a poem or a song is worth its weight in gold, and gold is worth nothing at all.

CHORUS Even a bad road movie is good. I’d jump right in one if I could. I wish they could go on forever, coz even a bad road movie is good. You might meet a lover, you might meet a friend, or you might come to a sticky end. Not knowing which makes you feel alive, and that’s why even a bad road movie is good. CHORUS They’re always set in the USA. Those long straight roads take you away. You can leave your life behind, and that’s why even a bad road movie is good. CHORUS I must’ve watched a thousand or more, but I could watch a thousand more. The road will teach you all you need, and that’s why even a bad road movie is good. CHORUS x 2
8.
Colours bouncing in the trees. The train was laughing and alive. You travelled all across the land in a cloud of poison dust. And we’re all following in your tracks, we’re all following in your tracks x 3 You left signs for us to see, showed there was a different way. You played in all the clubs and bars, put your hat down in the street. And we’re all following in your tracks, we’re all following in your tracks x 3 You told the hard hitting truth, sang of life and love and war. When the great storms hit the plains you left on route 66. And we’re all following in your tracks, we’re all following in your tracks x 7
9.
A tune is going round your head, you’ve got a song to sing. Polished smooth through the years like green glass by the sea. You’ve got to keep moving, keep thinking, keep changing. Keep playing, keep laughing, keep on keeping on. You click the shutter and you hold a moment in your hands. But half your life is in a cloud, the rest is slipping away. You’ve got to keep moving, keep thinking, keep changing. Keep talking, keep walking, running to stand still. You don’t need to reach the top of the mountains that you climb. Sometimes you find your way by getting lost. You’ve got to keep moving, keep thinking, keep changing. Keep trying, keep building castles in the air.
10.
The drizzle starts again as she’s loading up the car. She couldn’t find a suitcase, so she’s using bags for life. The sun is hidden by the clouds, the sun is hidden by the clouds, she knows it’s always there. She listens to the news, same things every day. Politicians spinning words into their tangled webs. The truth is hidden by the lies, the truth is hidden by the lies, she knows it’s always there. She drives a hundred miles, the shops are all the same. Doesn’t matter where you go. She turns around for home. She starts another sculpture, doesn’t know what it will be. Could be a thousand different things, just chip away what you don’t need. The form is hidden by the stone, the form is hidden in the stone, but it’s already there. Pads of paper all around the house. Butterfly ideas, she tries to pin them down. Her thoughts are hidden in the clouds, her thoughts are hidden by the clouds, she knows they’re always there, she knows they’re always there, I know they’re always there…
11.
CHORUS I’m rocking gently through the night, I’m rocking gently through the night, underneath the darkness and the stars in the sky. Windows reaching out like arms open wide. I hear people talking, a baby’s sudden cry, as I’m rocking gently through the night. CHORUS Bats are circling round and round so light. I’m up there with them inside my mind, as I’m rocking gently through the night. CHORUS Wondering how time started, when it’s gonna end, I lay suspended between now and then, as I’m rocking gently through the night. CHORUS
12.
CHORUS We’ll talk about it at the dark hour. Red wine bending time. Old endings, new beginnings, love and music carry on. Without language what would we see? A sky colourless and grey? Words strung together like beads on a thread, a lifeline waiting there for you. CHORUS Faces turned from train windows. What is there when you don’t look? Fitness always beats the truth, the case against reality. CHORUS Echoes of songs from long ago drift softly up to me. Lines are blurring, it’s hard to tell where things end or begin. CHORUS

about

I made all of the instruments used apart from the Melodica, harmonica and a tie washboard.
On most tracks I used my favourite 3 string Cigar Box Guitar made with a Cohiba box.
On "Following In Your Tracks" I used a 5 string guitar made from a cheap box from eBay.
On "Even A Bad Road Movie Is Good" as well as my Cohiba 3 string CBG I used a lapslide made from an old spirit level.
On "Forget-Me-Not" I used a 2 stringer made with an old first aid kit tin that belonged to my parents.
In one of the lockdowns I started making some instruments with PVC pipe (and one with a hosepipe) and a kitchen funnel, with a sax mouthpiece.
It's good to have another sound at my disposal and they have made their way into some of the songs on this album...
For anyone wanting to know more about the instruments check out my Youtube channel www.youtube.com/c/bemuzic

Thanks as always to my husband for his patience at hearing these songs so many times while I was recording and mixing, and for being a great sounding board!
